What is Dangerous Driving?
Dangerous Driving and Reckless Driving represent some of the most serious motoring offences that can carry some of the biggest penalties if convicted.
Some motorists are under the false impression that these legal definitions are confined to motorists who wilfully and deliberately break the law, but the reality is quite different. Serious offences can also be committed through lack of concentration on the road.
Dangerous Driving is a much more serious charge than Careless Driving or driving without due care and attention. The Road Traffic Act 1988 defines a Dangerous Driver as a person who’s driving falls far below that of a competent and careful driver and if it is obvious to a competent and careful driver that driving in that way would be dangerous.
A few examples of these driving offences could include:
- Racing or Competitive driving
- Undertaking and overtaking where it is illegal or obviously dangerous
- Deliberately ignoring traffic lights and other road signs
- Driving a vehicle with a load which presents a danger to other road users
There are many more that can fall under this category and you should seek the advice of road traffic law specialist regarding these complicated legal definitions.
