Divorce, Separation and Civil Partnership Dissolution

When a relationship breaks down it can be an extremely emotional and stressful time, so the prospect of starting divorce or dissolution proceedings can seem daunting.

Our team of divorce solicitors can formally assist in completing the relevant documentation from the initial divorce/dissolution petition, though the decree nisi and to final decree absolute. We can help you to complete the relevant documentation to agree to, or contest an application to end the marriage/civil partnership by your partner.

Grounds For Divorce or Civil Partnership Dissolution

In order to apply for a divorce/dissolution, you need to have been married or in a civil partnership for at least one year and show that your marriage /partnership has broken down irretrievably. This breakdown can be demonstrated in the following ways:
  • Adultery

  • Unreasonable behaviour (your spouse or partner’s behaviour means you cannot reasonably live together)

  • Your spouse or partner has deserted you for at least 2 years

  • Your spouse or partner consents to a divorce/dissolution and you have been living apart for 2 years. You can still be living in the same property but you will both need to be living separate lives during that period

  • You have lived apart for 5 years and your spouse or partner does not consent to a divorce/dissolution. You can still be living in the same property but you will both need to be living separately and apart for five years

Divorce/dissolution proceedings can often raise sensitive and personal issues, so it’s essential you choose a solicitor that makes you feel comfortable. Our expert family divorce solicitors offer honest, expert advice which is both straightforward and easy to understand. They can advise you on your rights and all the options available to you. We have the experience, so you don’t have to worry.
